Changes to the Approval of PROPLANT the Propamocarb-Hydrochloride Based Fungicide
16-Jan-2012
There have been significant changes to the approval of the horticultural fungicide Proplant. Revocation notice 20111157 issued by CRD means that Proplant can only be sold by merchants up 31st March 2012 under the current approval; MAPP 13359. Growers will then have another 12 months until 31st March 2013 to use any remaining product with the current label.
After this date Proplant will still be available under a new label and approval; MAPP 15422. However, the new label is far more restrictive. Proplant is currently used to control phytophthora, pythium, botrytis and downy mildews on a wide range of crops. The new label sees the approval revoked on a number of important crops such as ornamental plant production and protected/unprotected lettuce. The approvals of other Propamocarb-Hydrochloride based products such as Filex and Previcur Energy are also affected.
Growers using Proplant in a spray programme currently should ensure they purchase sufficient stocks with the current label before March 2012 to last until March 2013. By which time the manufacturer Agriphar hopes current ongoing trial work will allow some of the current uses can be transferred to the new label.
